China's icebreaker Xuelong 2 carried out its first ice station survey in the central Arctic Ocean on Sunday, near 84 degrees north latitude. As part of the country's 16th Arctic expedition, the vessel will gather data on a changing environment, deploying drifting buoys, collecting ice cores and using remote sensing to observe sea ice.
