In a stunning upset at the WTT Europe Smash in Sweden, defending champion Truls Moregard suffered an unexpected first-round exit, falling in straight games against experienced German, Dimitrij Ovtcharov.  

The opening game was close, with Ovtcharov narrowly clinching it 11-9. He then upped his tempo in the second game, dominating Moregard 11-3.

Determined to reclaim momentum, the 23-year-old top seed fought back in the third game, tying the score at 8-8 and momentarily preserving hope for a comeback. However, Ovtcharov maintained his composure, closing out the match 11-8 and securing a 3-0 victory. The 37-year-old now looks forward to facing either Poland's Miłosz Redzimski or the Republic of Korea's Oh Jun-sung in the next round.

On a more favorable note for China, Xiang Peng beat the ROK's Lim Jong-hoon with a 3-1 win. After dropping the first game 12-10, the World No. 18 fought back, capturing the second game 11-6 with a brilliant rally that set the tone for the match.  

Xiang continued his momentum, winning the third game 11-7 and clinching the final game 13-11. His next challenge lies against either Singapore's Izaac Quek or 2024 European champion Alexis Lebrun of France.

In women's singles, China's top seed Wang Manyu made a commanding return after a month-long injury layoff, defeating Egypt's Dina Meshref 3-0 in straight games. 

This encounter marked their third meeting, with Wang having prevailed in the previous two. The 27-year-old quickly asserted her dominance, effortlessly clinching the first game 11-4.  

Wang maintained control in the second game, racing to a 7-2 lead. Although Meshref displayed aggression and won a rally with a powerful backhand, it wasn't enough to thwart Wang, who took the game 11-4 once again.  

With match point at hand, Wang secured the third game 11-4, completing the rout in just 16 minutes. Up next for her is Chien Tung-Chuan of Chinese Taipei, as she aims to build on her promising return to the circuit.
