Global index provider MSCI has added 33 Chinese companies to its MSCI China Index, including Zhipu AI, one of the three largest additions to the broader emerging markets index by market value.

The inclusion of Zhipu AI, known for its open-weight GLM model series (the latest version, GLM-5.2, was released in June), underscores global index funds' growing interest in China's AI sector.

The changes take effect after market close on August 31. Passive funds tracking MSCI benchmarks will rebalance their portfolios accordingly.

The new additions include 31 A-share companies such as Guangdong Fenghua Advanced Technology Holdings and Kingsemi, alongside Hong Kong-listed Zhipu AI and Kingboard Holdings.

Analysts say the inclusion reflects the rising influence of Chinese tech and hard-tech firms in global benchmarks, as foreign capital continues to increase exposure to Chinese assets.
