Since August, a series of immersive folk activities has been taking place at Tianmen Mountain in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, offering visitors a taste of local culture this summer.
With Tianmen Mountain's dramatic peaks as a backdrop, traditional Tujia customs have been brought to life through live performances. On the 999-step stairway to Tianmen Cave, Tujia women in traditional dress staged a fashion show. They also performed traditional toasting songs and serve Tujia rice wine in bamboo tubes, offering visitors firsthand experience of Tujia hospitality.
At Tianmen Cave Square, lion dances, bamboo pole dances and Tujia martial arts performances have kept the crowds entertained. Visitors are also invited to join in, adding to the lively atmosphere.
Since July, Tianmen Mountain has welcomed 97,000 international visitors, marking a year-on-year increase of 54%. To manage the summer crowds, the scenic area has added multilingual signage, volunteer service points, timed entry and shaded rest areas.
