At least one person has been killed and several others injured following an explosion at the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands on Thursday, local media reported.

The blast happend at around 11:30 a.m., according to Dutch regional broadcaster Rijnmond. A police spokesperson said the cause is still under investigation.

Emergency services have significantly scaled up their response.
