Remains of an ancient Roman bridge have emerged from the Tiber near St. Peter's Basilica after weeks of virtually no rain. The river's flow has fallen below 80 cubic meters per second – roughly half the historic average for July.

Commonly known as Nero's Bridge, the structure actually predates Nero, the fifth Roman emperor, and may have been built by Emperor Caligula around 39 AD.
