At the Wolong Shenshuping Base in Sichuan, first-time giant panda mom En En is thriving with her newborn cub. Born on June 4, the female cub is the first arrival of the year at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda.

Though En En showed strong maternal instincts from the start, she needed a little help from keepers to perfect her nursing posture, eventually learning the ropes in just one day. Now a fully capable mother, she nurses, grooms and cradles her cub with ease.

The cub has grown from 243.9 grams at birth to a healthy 3,070 grams – with all development indicators on track.
