Two herds of 11 wild camels have been spotted roaming freely in a desert reserve in northwest China's Gansu Province. To help the critically endangered animals thrive, the reserve has protected natural water sources and added artificial ones. The local wild camel population has now grown to about 300 – around one-third of the global total – while fewer wild animals need rescue each year as the environment improves.
