A three-day symposium on the life and thoughts of late leader Jiang Zemin opened on Monday as China commemorated the 100th anniversary of his birth.
In his address at the opening ceremony, Cai Qi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, urged efforts to deepen research on the Theory of Three Represents in light of conditions in the new era.
Born in August 1926, Jiang was elected general secretary of the CPC Central Committee in 1989. He was the core of the third generation of the Party's central collective leadership and the principal founder of the Theory of Three Represents. In 2022, he passed away at the age of 96.
Cai stressed the extreme importance of upholding the Party's overall leadership and always adhering to the centralized and unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee.
He also stressed the importance of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times, as well as building a great country and advancing national rejuvenation on all fronts through Chinese modernization.
Cai called for efforts to steadfastly advance high-quality development, strengthen cultural confidence to help socialist culture flourish, build a community with a shared future for humanity and unswervingly strengthen full and rigorous Party self-governance.
The symposium, which runs from Monday to Wednesday, is attended by about 500 officials, scholars and other participants.
