Her first China trip: Jazz, culture and unexpected connections

At a time when China-US headlines are often dominated by trade, technology and strategic rivalry, a group of young Americans is bringing a different kind of conversation to China – through jazz.

The National Youth Orchestra Jazz, or NYO Jazz, is touring Shanghai and Beijing this summer. For these young musicians, it's a chance to experience the country firsthand and connect with Chinese audiences through music.
