Dota 2's The International 2026 main event kicks off in Shanghai

The International 2026 (TI2026), the most prestigious global tournament in professional Dota 2 esports, officially launched its final showdown at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center on August 20, marking the grand return of Dota 2's flagship championship to China after years of anticipation.

A total of 16 elite teams worldwide qualified for the tournament, with seven squads securing direct invitations and the remaining nine earning spots through fierce regional qualifiers.

Tickets were sold out in five minutes on June 10, attracting global fans from 73 countries and regions.

Beyond intense in-game battles, the Shanghai event highlights the integration of esports and urban culture. A special orchestra performance was held in July, along with pop-up installations at Shanghai’s major shopping malls before the finals.

The competition reinforces Shanghai's status as a global esports hub, attracting millions of online viewers and on-site audiences and injecting new vitality into the international esports industry. The grand finals will conclude on August 23, crowning the new champion of Dota 2's 2026 competitive season.
