Barcelona beat Al Ahly to win Joan Gamper Trophy

Barcelona concluded pre-season with a 2-1 victory over Al Ahly and claimed the Joan Gamper Trophy on Wednesday. The Blaugrana's surprise summer signing Anthony Gordon notably missed a late penalty in his first game at home for the Spanish giants.

Another new signing Rodri took to the Camp Nou pitch ahead of kick-off, though the World Cup Golden Ball winner did not feature in the game. 

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, when 18-year-old Hamza Abdelkarim tapped home a cross from Alejandro Balde. The Egyptian youngster opted not to celebrate the goal out of respect to his former club.

Two minutes before half-time, Raphinha was fouled inside the penalty area, and the Brazilian converted the resulting penalty himself to double Barcelona's lead.

Al Ahly pulled one back six minutes after the restart. Monsef Bakrar set up Zizo, who fired a powerful left-footed strike past goalkeeper Joan Garcia to cut the deficit.

In stoppage time, summer arrival Gordon, who joined Barca from Newcastle United, was denied a debut goal after his penalty effort was saved. The match ended 2-1. Hansi Flick's side are set to start the new La Liga season with an away game against Elche on Sunday.
