Robot tug-of-war will make its debut at the upcoming second World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, adding a new test of motion control, force sensing, coordination and decision-making.

The competition will be held in a two-on-two format on a 1.2-meter-wide, 12-meter-long track, with two-minute matches disqualifying robots whose non-foot body parts touch the ground or step out of bounds.

The World Humanoid Robot Games, which run from August 22 to 26, have attracted 666 teams and 2,056 robots from 16 countries, making it one of the largest humanoid robot contests yet.
