Li Xinxiang's late stoppage time header rescued a point for defending champions Shanghai Port who drew 1-1 at home against Dalian Yingbo in the Chinese Super League.
Dalian took the lead early in the first half after being awarded a penalty in the 16th minute. Yang Mingrui was fouled by Port goalkeeper Yan Junling, who received a yellow card. Dalian captain Nicolae Stanciu calmly converted the spot kick to put the visitors ahead. The 33-year-old extended his scoring run to four consecutive matches, establishing a new club record.
Port stepped up their attacking intensity after the break. Captain Wu Lei created a clear-cut chance in the 52nd minute, delivering a precise cross for Leonardo, whose close-range header sailed over the crossbar. Six minutes later, China's all-time record national team scorer Wu found the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
At the other end, Yang tapped home a cross from Xiao Lirong with 15 minutes remaining, but the effort was also chalked off for offside.
Kevin Muscat's Shanghai Port were handed a crucial penalty seven minutes before full time, after Wei Zhen's header struck the arm of Dalian's Song Yue. However, Wei failed to convert from the spot, wasting a golden chance to pull his side level.
Port eventually salvaged a draw in the first minute of stoppage time. Liu Zhurun's pinpoint cross found Li, who headed home the equalizer and it ended 1-1.
Following the result, Dalian Yingbo sit sixth in the league table, while Shanghai Port drop two places down to eighth.
