Five people are missing and eight others have been injured in a fire that broke out shortly after midnight in a residential building in Thusis, Switzerland, local police said on Friday.

The fire "completely destroyed" a restaurant with apartments, according to the police cantonal Graubünden.

Among those who fled the burning building, eight were injured – two seriously, two moderately and four slightly, police added.

Crews were still working to contain the fire on Friday morning as an investigation got under way.
