China's domestically developed S4000 Stratosphere Airborne Wind Energy System (SAWES) has successfully completed a full-process flight test at a test base in northwest China, marking a major step toward the engineering application of stratospheric high-altitude wind power technology.
The test covered the entire process, from launch and sustained flight to power generation and controlled recovery, with all key indicators meeting requirements.
Designed to operate at altitudes of up to 4,000 meters, the S4000 features upgraded performance, compatibility with mainstream power grids and a design life of up to 20 years.
The successful test helps advance the use of high-altitude wind energy in complex environments and strengthens China's capacity to develop clean energy in high-altitude regions.
