Economic anthropologist Jason Hickel says China's tech and Belt and Road Initiative are helping the Global South break free from unequal trade with the Western imperial core. He argues that this "delinking from exploitation" is exactly why Western powers "deeply dislike" China – it "undermines the imperial arrangements" they've relied on for 500 years.
