A troop of Assamese macaques has been spotted in Gaoligong Mountain National Nature Reserve in southwest China's Yunnan – perched in trees, feeding, grooming and resting. The footage also captures other macaques and monkeys going about their day in the reserve, which is home to more than 3,000 wild animal species. With only 8,000 to 10,000 Assamese macaques estimated in the wild, sightings like this are few and far between. Their presence is a quiet sign that the reserve's protection systems are working.
