Beidao Island in Sansha, Hainan, is China's largest natural nesting ground for green sea turtles. From June to August, adult females return to these shores to lay their eggs. Year-round, the island also provides a safe haven for injured turtles to recover before returning to the sea. Some arrive injured by fishing nets or weakened by marine debris. With dedicated care, they get a second chance at life. Over the past five years, the local conservation center has rescued more than 1,000 turtles.
