Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, who is accompanying King Abdullah II of Jordan on his visit to China, in Beijing on Sunday. Both sides expressed their readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen their strategic partnership.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said King Abdullah II's visit to China after 11 years is expected to further strengthen strategic mutual trust between the two countries, consolidate the political foundation of bilateral ties and advance mutually beneficial cooperation across various fields.

China appreciates Jordan's firm commitment to a friendly policy toward China and its adherence to the one-China principle, Wang said, adding China will continue to support Jordan in safeguarding its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Noting next year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Jordan, Wang said China is ready to work with Jordan to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, lay a foundation for the next 50 years of China-Jordan relations and inject new impetus into bilateral ties.

Wang also noted the situation in the Middle East remains complex and severe, noting that Jordan is an important country in the region and has a unique influence on the development of the regional situation.

The Palestinian issue is at the core of the Middle East issue and should not be marginalized or instrumentalized, Wang stressed.

China calls on all parties to maintain communication and dialogue, work toward a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and ease the humanitarian situation there, Wang said, adding that China will continue to support Jordan in playing a positive role on issues including Palestine.

China is a sincere and reliable partner for Jordan and will firmly stand on the right side of history and the just position of Arab countries, Wang said, calling for efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East at an early date.

Safadi thanked China for the warm and thoughtful arrangements for King Abdullah II's visit, saying Jordan attaches great importance to its relations with China and that the visit will further strengthen the two countries' strategic partnership.

Jordan firmly adheres to the one-China principle and recognizes the government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China, Safadi said, adding that this position will not change.

Jordan is ready to work with China to translate the consensus between the two heads of state and the strategic partnership into practical actions and deepen cooperation across various fields, Safadi said.

Safadi spoke highly of China's positive and responsible role in addressing Middle East issues, particularly its firm support for a two-state solution on the Palestinian issue, and said Jordan is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China to promote lasting peace and stability in the region.
