Liang, Wang win China's only gold, France makes history at BWF Worlds

Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang captured China's only gold medal at the BWF World Championships in New Delhi on Sunday, defeating Malaysia's Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik 21-17, 21-16 in the men's doubles final.

The Chinese pair saved their country's best result for the final match of the championships, adding a world title to their résumé after China had earlier settled for silver in the mixed doubles and women's doubles.

Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping were denied in a three-game mixed doubles final, losing to France's Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue 22-20, 19-21, 21-15.

The victory was a landmark moment for French badminton, with Gicquel and Delrue becoming the country's first world champions. France had even more reason to celebrate when Alex Lanier overwhelmed Japan's Kodai Naraoka 21-11, 21-11 in the men's singles final.

Lanier became France's first singles world champion as the country finished with two gold medals at a single edition of the World Championships for the first time. France also became the first European nation since Denmark in 1977 to clinch multiple golds at the tournament.

The Republic of Korea matched France with two titles after sweeping the women's events.

Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee defeated China's defending champions Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning 21-15, 21-15 in the women's doubles final, winning the ROK's first world title in the event in 31 years.

World No. 1 An Se-young then cruised past Japan's Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-14 in women's singles, securing her second world crown following her 2023 triumph.
