Robotic dexterity put to test with bean-picking challenge in Beijing

Robotic hands used tweezers to pick up soybeans at the second World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing on Sunday, in a contest designed to test precision and tool-handling skills.

Participating teams remotely operated the robots as judges counted successful attempts. The challenge is one of eight dexterous-hand events aimed at assessing capabilities that could support future applications in homes, workplaces and other everyday settings.
