The US Treasury Department on Monday launched what it called an "economic D-Day" campaign against Iran, expanding potential secondary sanctions in the digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and shipping sectors. It also sanctioned nearly 60 entities, individuals and vessels across multiple jurisdictions.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf dismissed the move, saying Washington lacked the economic leverage to restrict other countries' relations with Iran. He said Tehran's trading partners had indicated they would not take the US statements into account.
