Ontario Premier Doug Ford has said Canada should not back down in the escalating trade dispute with the United States, warning that its steel, auto and manufacturing sectors could be badly hit. His remarks came after bilateral trade talks collapsed and Washington imposed 50% tariffs on about $20 billion worth of Canadian goods.

"We have two choices," Ford said. "We either roll back and let him take over our country, watch the steel sector bleed out, watch the auto sector bleed out, the auto part manufacturers bleed out, all the manufacturers bleed out. That's his game. But we are not going to play his game."
