A wildlife survey in Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, has found about 60 black storks, a rare first-class protected species known as the "giant panda among birds." Local authorities are monitoring these elegant birds, which feature iridescent blackish plumage, white underparts, and bright red beaks and legs. As they forage in small groups along the riverbanks for fish, frogs, crustaceans and insects, they also favor large lakes, marshes and riverside cliffs or tall trees for breeding.
