Chinese FM meets US ambassador to China, urges removal of bilateral exchange disruptions

China and the United States should earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and remove disruptions and overcome obstacles to high-level exchanges between the two countries, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday while meeting with David Perdue, the US ambassador to China, in Beijing.

Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China and the United States are working to build a constructive relationship of strategic stability, said Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, according to a press release issued by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday.

Facts have proven that improving and developing China-US relations, pursuing peaceful coexistence on the basis of mutual respect, and ultimately achieving win-win cooperation serve the fundamental interests of the two peoples and meet the common expectations of the international community, he added.

Wang noted that China-US relations still face various risks and challenges. The two sides should focus on a positive agenda, properly manage differences, and remove disruptions and overcome obstacles to high-level exchanges, so as to promote the stable, healthy and sustainable development of bilateral relations, he said.

Perdue said that the two heads of state have provided important strategic guidance for US-China relations, adding that US President Donald Trump's visit to China in May was a success.

The United States is willing to strengthen communication with China, advance cooperation and make preparations for the next stage of important high-level interactions, he said, adding that the two sides are willing to build a constructive relationship of strategic stability on the basis of mutual respect and equality.

Perdue also conveyed the US side's condolences over the casualties in a mudslide at Gyirong border port in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region.
