On August 27, the first batch of helicopters from a brigade of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) arrived over the mudslide-affected area in Gyirong, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region. They are currently circling the area to search for survivors, assess the extent of the disaster, and determine rescue and evacuation routes.
