AI and data sharing can help build more resilient agricultural systems, while China's agricultural development experience could offer valuable lessons for Papua New Guinea and other Pacific Island communities, said Nelson Simbiken, Director General of Papua New Guinea's National Agricultural Research Institute.

Speaking to CGTN at the APEC Food Security Ministerial Meeting in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, Simbiken said AI and digital soil mapping can support more informed planning, while greater data sharing is key to making these technologies more effective.

He also emphasized the value of China's experience in agricultural mechanization and seed systems, saying these lessons could be applied in Papua New Guinea and benefit other Pacific Island communities through greater regional cooperation.
