2026 China-South Africa Human Rights Seminar held in Hangzhou

The 2026 China-South Africa Human Rights Seminar was held in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, on Thursday, with around 60 participants reaching consensus on advancing human rights through common modernization.

Officials, experts and scholars from China, South Africa and other countries held in-depth discussions on China-Africa economic and trade cooperation and the shared right to development under new circumstances, human rights protection amid the green transition, and advancing human rights through modernized social governance.

Prior to the seminar, overseas participants spent three days visiting Hangzhou, Jinhua and Yiwu cities in Zhejiang Province, touring industrial parks, businesses and rural communities. They gained first-hand insights into the achievements of Chinese modernization in Zhejiang and experienced for themselves China's approach to human rights and the progress made in its practice.

The China-South Africa Human Rights Seminar was initiated by China Foundation for Human Rights Development. The first symposium was held in Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa, in December 2025.
