Chinese Air Force drone detects avalanche near Gyirong Port in Xizang

A Chinese Air Force drone detected an avalanche near Gyirong Port in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region on August 28, as authorities monitored the area for secondary hazards following a mudslide disaster two days earlier.

Preliminary estimates showed that around 50,000 cubic meters of ice debris had entered a nearby barrier lake. Authorities sounded the alarm, stepped up monitoring and prepared for possible evacuations.

The August 26 mudslide disaster was triggered by a high-altitude glacier collapse in Nepal, according to a joint assessment by experts from China and Nepal.
