Search and rescue efforts have ramped up after a powerful mudslide hit the port of Gyirong in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region. The first professional rescue teams reached the border crossing at around 4:30 p.m. on August 28.

Residents and tourists have been evacuated, while rescue teams continue to monitor a high-risk barrier lake that formed after the disaster.
