Gyirong Town in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region has set up temporary shelters in village homestays and hotels for people affected by the mudslide. Nearly 500 residents and another 555 tourists have been safely relocated.
Locals have thrown open their doors, offering food, medical supplies and a place to stay. Hotels are also handing out meals, hot water and other essentials.
Medical teams are on site at each shelter. The town government has set up a round-the-clock task force to keep supplies moving.
