Chinese President Xi Jinping's signed article, titled "Jointly Opening up New Prospects for the High-Quality Development of China-Kyrgyzstan Relations," has drawn strong resonance from various sectors in Kyrgyzstan ahead of his state visit to Kyrgyzstan and attendance at the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.

Published on Friday in the Slovo Kyrgyzstana newspaper and Kabar National News Agency, the article reviewed the history of China-Kyrgyzstan friendship and outlined a vision for advancing bilateral relations and building a China-Kyrgyzstan community with a shared future.

Kyrgyz officials, business representatives, academics and educators said Xi's visit will provide fresh impetus for cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, education and other areas while further strengthening the foundation of bilateral friendship.

President Xi's signed article provides important guidance for promoting the high-quality development of China-Kyrgyzstan relations, said Elena Zholobova, editor-in-chief of the Slovo Kyrgyzstana newspaper. She noted that the article reflects Xi's deep affection for the friendship between the two countries and highlights the tangible benefits of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Erlist Akunbekov, Kyrgyz Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, said bilateral ties are underpinned by a high level of political trust, which is increasingly being translated into concrete investment projects, advanced technologies and production capacity. "The Kyrgyz side always keeps the door open to Chinese enterprises and looks forward to more long-term investment, advanced technologies and high-quality projects in Kyrgyzstan," he said, adding that Xi's visit will open up new space for bilateral cooperation.

Ravshanbek Sabirov, head of the National Investment Agency, pointed out that cooperation between the two countries has expanded into industries like energy, agriculture, transportation, digital technology and tourism. He expressed hope that Xi's visit will further advance bilateral ties and encourage more Chinese companies to invest in Kyrgyzstan.

Former Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Alikbek Jekshenkulov described Xi's visit as another important milestone in bilateral relations, saying ties between the two countries are entering a period of increasingly substantive cooperation and fruitful results.

Expanding cooperation to benefit people

In his article, Xi noted that, at the new starting point, the two sides should make steady progress toward building the China-Kyrgyzstan community with a shared future to bring more benefits to the two peoples and contribute even more to regional and world peace, stability, and prosperity.

China-Kyrgyzstan economic and trade cooperation has maintained steady growth despite weak global economic expansion. China has remained Kyrgyzstan's largest source of investment for years, while bilateral trade reached $11.7 billion in the first seven months of this year.

Takirov Urmat Kanatbekovich, director of the Center for Export Development and Promotion "Kyrgyz Export," said mutually beneficial cooperation has strengthened economic ties between the two countries. Kyrgyz agricultural products have gained popularity in China through platforms such as the China International Import Expo. At the same time, access to China's dynamic market has helped Kyrgyz businesses improve their international competitiveness.

People-to-people exchanges have also continued to deepen. China has established a Luban Workshop, four Confucius Institutes and 21 Confucius Classrooms in Kyrgyzstan, providing more opportunities for local people to learn Chinese and acquire professional skills.

At the Confucius Classroom of Bishkek No. 69 Middle School, the country's first Confucius Classroom, school principal Ataeva Toktosunovna said Xi's recognition of its achievements had made teachers and students proud and would encourage more Kyrgyz people to learn Chinese and understand China.

Mirlan Chynybaev, rector of Kyrgyz State Technical University, said the two countries are expanding practical cooperation in education, culture and science and technology. The university plans to strengthen cooperation with Chinese universities and enterprises, including joint training of engineering talent for infrastructure projects and preparation of technical personnel in fields such as artificial intelligence and green energy.

New impetus for SCO cooperation

Xi's article also highlighted the role of the SCO in promoting regional security, development and cooperation. Kyrgyz experts said the upcoming summit could inject new momentum into efforts to build a closer SCO community with a shared future.

Meerim Kozhokmatova, head of the Regional Project Support Center for SCO Countries in Kyrgyzstan, said such efforts would help safeguard regional security, expand economic and trade ties, promote people-to-people exchanges and unlock the region's development potential.

She noted that major infrastructure projects under high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and China will further improve regional connectivity and support shared prosperity.

Kyrgyz journalist Kalaman Siyagul, who attended activities related to the 2025 SCO Tianjin Summit in China, said China has long promoted cooperation among SCO countries in trade and investment, infrastructure, the digital economy, education, culture, scientific research and innovation.

China has led SCO cooperation toward continuous upgrading and higher-quality development, she added.

Igor Shestakov, director of Kyrgyzstan's Center for Expert Initiatives "Oi Ordo," expressed expectations for Xi to put forward new proposals and initiatives at the Bishkek summit to inject fresh impetus into regional prosperity and stability.

Sheradil Baktygulov, director of the Kyrgyz Institute of World Politics, said Kyrgyzstan highly appreciates Xi's vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity and actively participates in implementing China's four global initiatives.

He said the initiatives offer systematic approaches to addressing global challenges and provide a roadmap for building a fairer and more equitable global governance system, bringing greater stability and certainty to a turbulent world.
