China has deployed more than 2,100 rescuers – by land, water and air – to the mudslide-ravaged Gyirong Port in Xizang Autonomous Region. A six-strong Xizang rescue team and 15 personnel from Sichuan, with a search and rescue dog, became the first professional teams to reach the disaster zone at around 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Rescue crews are battling to reopen shattered roads while keeping watch on an unstable barrier lake and treacherous slopes.
