Since reaching the core disaster zone on August 28, 2026, rescuers have spent three straight days near Gyirong Port searching for survivors. They have worked through heavy rain and slept outdoors on the mountain, often staying awake for much of the night to prevent hypothermia. Around 40,000 square meters near the destroyed port have already been searched twice, but crews say they will continue with a deeper search.

Rescue operations are now entering their sixth day, as the devastating mudslide has caused heavy casualties on both sides of the China-Nepal border.
