China's 2026 summer movie season has ended on a high note, bringing in 12.5 billion yuan ($1.86 billion) and drawing 340 million cinema visits. Cinemas held a record 38.5 million screenings, while domestic films accounted for more than 70% of the box office.

The season's biggest hits included Kung Fu Soccer, Once Upon a Time in the Middle East and All Wishes Come True!, alongside Hollywood releases such as Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey. The strong performance was supported by a diverse lineup of films and lower ticket prices. The average ticket price was 36.74 yuan, the lowest for a summer movie season since 2022.
