China-proposed Global Governance Initiative gains broad international support

The principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits reflect the aspirations of the international community, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Tuesday, marking the first anniversary of the Global Governance Initiative.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Guo said the initiative has gained growing international recognition over the past year, evolving from a Chinese proposal into practical international cooperation and demonstrating strong vitality, influence and appeal.

According to Guo, the initiative is aligned with the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and has received support from nearly 160 countries and international organizations. More than 60 countries have joined the Group of Friends of Global Governance, carrying out close coordination on a wide range of global governance issues.

Guo said the expansion of mechanisms such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has further enhanced the representation and voice of the Global South in international affairs.

The achievements made over the past year fully demonstrate that extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits meet the expectations of the international community, that multilateralism remains a broad consensus, and that building a more just and equitable global governance system is a shared aspiration, Guo noted.
