Gyirong mourns victims of deadly mudslide

A memorial for the victims of the August 26 mudslide was held in Gyirong County, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, at 9:55 a.m. on Tuesday.

Rescue personnel, local officials and representatives of the residents observed a moment of silence at ceremonies held simultaneously in the core disaster zone and at road restoration sites.

On the Chinese side of the border, 16 people had been confirmed dead, and 546 remained missing at Gyirong Port as of 6 p.m. on August 29, according to Xizang regional authorities.
