Inter-Parliamentary Union chief hails China's role in parliamentary cooperation

04:02

China has been playing an increasingly active role in the work of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, with the support of the National People's Congress of China helping the organization develop guidelines, self-assessment tools and toolkits, said Anda Filip, the newly appointed Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

She said the IPU provides an inclusive platform for countries of the Global South to make their voices heard and share their experiences.

Filip is the first woman to lead the organization in its 137-year history. She was in China from August 24 to 31 to attend the eighth seminar for parliamentarians from developing countries.
