China investigates and handles criminal cases involving foreign citizens in China in accordance with the law, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Friday, in response to questions about 52 Singaporeans arrested in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on suspicion of involvement in pyramid scheme activities.

China also fully safeguards the legal rights of the individuals concerned in accordance with the law, Guo added.

Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Singapore Police Force disclosed the arrests of the 52 Singaporeans in a joint statement on Friday.

Speaking to reporters, Sim Ann, Singapore's second minister for foreign affairs and home affairs, said the Singaporean government does not interfere in the judicial process and investigations of other countries.
