Rescue teams are widening, leveling and reinforcing a key stretch of the G216 National Highway roughly 1 kilometer from the core disaster area of mudslide-hit Gyirong Port in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region.
The work has been hampered by heavy rainfall and water seeping into the roadbed, making the unstable section difficult to repair. The teams are aiming to further widen and reinforce the stretch to improve passage for rescue vehicles and personnel by tonight.
