Xizang launched search and rescue operations for missing people after the August 26 mudslide in Gyirong County, using land, water and air routes, the Emergency Rescue Command Headquarters said at a media briefing.

Ren Wei, executive vice chairman of the Xizang people's government, briefed reporters on the latest rescue and resettlement efforts.

Ren said every effort is being made to search for lives, while authorities have relocated and resettled affected residents.

A total of 555 stranded domestic tourists have been evacuated, and life‑support services have been provided for 1,720 Nepali border residents. 

Authorities are also carrying out rigorous identification and verification procedures for every missing person.

Information of the missing has been collected through multiple channels, including entry‑exit records and communication positioning. 

Authorities are verifying each individual's identity through door-to-door checks and responding to requests from family members. Four service hotlines offering round‑the‑clock support have been opened for both domestic and foreign family members. 

Staff provide comfort and emotional support, while carefully documenting every clue and request. A "special task‑force and dedicated file for each individual" mechanism has also been put in place to receive and support family members.
