On August 30, China set up 24-hour hotlines for families of those missing after the August 26 mudslide that affected both Nepal and China.

The hotlines are staffed by Mandarin, Tibetan, English and Nepali speakers. By September 3, they had received more than 560 calls from within China.

As of September 5, Chinese authorities reported 43 deaths and 519 people missing after the mudslide devastated Gyirong Port on the Chinese side of the border. The missing included 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries. Rescuers had also recovered 987 personal belongings.
