Iran is set to announce a "restricted zone" outside the Strait of Hormuz, and any vessel attempting to transit the area without coordinating with Tehran will be placed on Iran's sanctions list, Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said on Sunday. Meanwhile, the US Central Command said on X that "As of September 6, US forces have redirected 92 commercial vessels, disabled 3 and boarded 2 to ensure strict compliance."

Tensions between Tehran and Washington have escalated in recent weeks after the US carried out strikes on southern Iran, prompting retaliatory attacks by Iran on US bases in the region.
