A brigade of the PLA Army's 77th Group Army recently conducted a day-and-night live-fire artillery assessment in northwest China's Gobi Desert, testing its ability to conduct independent fire strikes and coordinate multiple weapon systems in an unfamiliar battlefield environment. Howitzers, gun-mortars and rocket artillery rapidly deployed to designated firing positions, while reconnaissance and command units coordinated target acquisition, firing data, weather updates and ammunition preparation.
