Chinese foreign minster says China, Mexico are partners in win-win cooperation

China and Mexico have become mutually beneficial partners and stand as an active force for upholding international peace, fairness and justice, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during talks with his Mexican counterpart in Beijing on Monday.

China has consistently viewed and advanced its ties with Mexico from a strategic perspective of solidarity and cooperation among Global South countries, Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said to Roberto Velasco Alvarez, Mexico's secretary of foreign affairs.

The Chinese side appreciates Mexico's longstanding and firm commitment to the one‑China principle, Wang said.

He said that China supports Mexico in upholding its independence, sovereignty and security and opposing foreign interference.

"The China-Mexico relationship does not target any third party, nor should it be subject to influence from any third party," Wang added.

He said China stands ready to work with Mexico to step up high‑level exchanges, consolidate political mutual trust, leverage bilateral communication mechanisms at all levels and deepen exchanges and cooperation across various fields, so as to promote the sustained and in-depth development of the China-Mexico comprehensive strategic partnership.

Noting that China will host the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November, Wang said Beijing would like to take the hosting of APEC events as an opportunity to work with all parties to reinvigorate the Asia-Pacific community and advance the process of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific.

China and Mexico share similar positions on many international and regional issues, he said, adding that China is willing to strengthen strategic coordination with Mexico in international and multilateral platforms, safeguard the legitimate interests of both countries and contribute to unity and solidarity among Global South countries.

For his part, Velasco said that Mexico appreciates the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence put forward by China and firmly abides by the one‑China principle and United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758.

Mexico is ready to work with China to strengthen high-level exchanges, advance bilateral mechanisms, expand and deepen practical cooperation and jointly work to achieve new outcomes in bilateral cooperation, he said.

Mexico supports China in hosting the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and playing a leading role, Velasco said.

He added that Mexico also stands ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China to jointly safeguard the international multilateral system.
