Wang Yi says China and Mexico have become mutually beneficial partners

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi says China is willing to strengthen strategic cooperation with Mexico on international and multilateral platforms to safeguard the legitimate interests of both sides, while jointly contributing to the self-resilience of Global South nations. Wang made the remarks on Monday at his meeting with visiting Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs Roberto Velasco Alvarez in Beijing. The Chinese foreign minister noted that China supports Mexico in upholding its independence, sovereignty, and security, adding that the relationship between China and Mexico does not target any third party, nor should it be influenced by any third party. He also said China is willing to take the opportunities of hosting various activities under the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) mechanism, to promote the development of the Asia-Pacific community. Roberto Velasco said that Mexico firmly adheres to the one-China principle, adding that his country supports China to host the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and play a leading role under the mechanism. He said Mexico is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China to jointly safeguard the international multilateral system.
