Bailu, or White Dew, is the 15th of the 24 solar terms in the Chinese lunar calendar. It falls on September 7 this year. It marks the time when summer heat finally fades across China. As autumn deepens, the air turns clear and crisp. Wild geese arrive, swallows head south and birds gather food for the cold days ahead. The Book of Songs captures the term beautifully: "Green, green the reed, Dew and frost gleam." Autumn breeze blows, reeds sway and the dew turns white as autumn edges in.
