Chinese Foreign Ministry slams Lai authorities' fallacies about UNGA Resolution 2758

The Lai Ching-te authorities' "wanton distortion" of the UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 has once again exposed their "Taiwan independence" separatist nature, and such fallacies cannot change the historical and legal fact that both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular media briefing in response to a question on Taiwan leader Lai's recent remarks that China misinterprets UNGA Resolution 2758, claiming that Taiwan is a "sovereign, independent state."

Mao said the Cairo Declaration in 1943 and the Potsdam Proclamation in 1945 explicitly demand that all the territories Japan has stolen from the Chinese, including Taiwan, shall be returned to China, and made it clear about China’s sovereignty over Taiwan.

There is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, Mao said, adding that this is an unshakable historical and legal fact.

UNGA Resolution 2758 confirms the one-China principle, explicitly stipulating the restoration of all rights of the People's Republic of China and making it clear that there can only be one seat representing China at the UN, Mao said.

No issues exist about so-called "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan," she added.

"Taiwan has never been a country, and it will never be one," Mao stressed.

She added that the Lai authorities' attempts cannot shake the international community's commitment to the one-China principle.
