The US Central Command released footage on Tuesday that it claimed showed its forces striking five Iranian crude oil tankers.

The command said the strikes followed two attempted ballistic missile attacks on a US Navy warship and that the tanker crews were directed to abandon the vessels beforehand.

Iranian state media acknowledged strikes on tankers near Jask and Kharg Island.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it retaliated by targeting a US base in Jordan. Jordan said it intercepted 18 of 20 missiles, with no casualties reported.
